Over 700 teams from Russia and Mongolia participated in the Family Mathematical Olympiad "From A to Z." The event was held in celebration of Mathematics Day in Russia, which is observed on December 1st. The Shapkin family from the Tyumen region emerged as the winners of the final round.

The "From A to Z" Family Mathematics Olympiad, organized by Adyghe State University, was conducted remotely using the All Cups platform on VK.

The Olympiad united families passionate about mathematics from across the country, from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad. Over 700 teams representing 49 Russian regions, along with 20 teams from Mongolia, competed in the qualifying round. Participants ranged from residents of large cities with populations over a million to small villages, such as Sapkovo in the Tver region, with just 78 inhabitants. The competition was fierce as families vied for the title of the most mathematically inclined. The regions with the highest number of participating teams were Krasnodar Krai, the Luhansk People's Republic, and Rostov Oblast.

The final featured eight teams from six Russian regions: Moscow, Volgograd, Tver, Tula, Tyumen, and Yaroslavl. These teams achieved the highest total points in the shortest time during the qualifying round.

The contestants solved problems live on air, hosted by renowned mathematics popularizer and Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, ASU Professor Alexey Savvateev, along with Dana Mamiy, a young scientist from Adygea and graduate student at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Dana Mamiy is also the host of the podcast "What Do Academicians Talk About."

The finals were intense — teams not only had to solve each of the seven problems correctly in the shortest time but also defend their solutions before the jury. After a tense and challenging competition, the Shapkin team from the Tyumen region emerged victorious. The team comprised an eighth-grade student from the Tyumen Physics and Mathematics School, along with his parents: his father, a neurosurgeon, and his mother, a designer.

"These are very interesting problems that offer a great cognitive challenge for the entire family. We are very grateful to the organizers for the opportunity to participate in the Olympiad and hope that this tradition will continue." noted Andrey Shapkin , captain of the winning team .

The Family Mathematical Olympiad "From A to Z" is a remote mathematics competition for teams, organized as part of the "Science Around. Discoveries Continue" project at Adyghe State University, with support from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as part of the Decade of Science and Technology. Family teams consisting of two to five members participated in the Olympiad, with each team required to include at least one school student and one adult family member.
